THE DOCUMENTED LIVES OF JEANETTE MACDONALD AND NELSON EDDY, ONCE MGM’S BIGGEST SCREEN TEAM UNTIL LOUIS B. MAYER HAD THEM BLACKLISTED AS A TEAM IN HOLLYWOOD.

Sharon Rich is a film historian, best known for the biography “Sweethearts” about 1930s MGM stars Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy. They made 8 classic musical films together including “Naughty Marietta”, “Rose Marie” and “Maytime.” Moviegoers always sensed they loved each other off-screen and were dismayed when both married others. Jeanette and Nelson were soulmates but were thwarted by MGM mogul Louie B. Mayer. “Sweethearts” was published in 1994 and has been since updated twice as more people came forward and on the record. It remains in print today. A movie biopic based on the book is scheduled to film late this year. At her presentation, Sharon will discuss their lives focusing on the back story while filming “Rose Marie”, their most famous movie. This was their second movie together when, in real life, Nelson asked Jeanette to marry him and she said yes.
